The Woogaboo Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, that promotes academic proficiency, health and character development in school-age children.
Woogaboo is an innovative educational system that uses fun, healthy activities as a basis for both academic and character development in students. Woogaboo establishes clubs for after school and summer programs, and also enriches existing programs. Woogaboo links activity clubs, classrooms, students, mentors, and teachers from different locations. This diverse, student-centered learning community is strengthened by Woogaboo's Ecological Education approach to learning, Mentor Network, and Universe of Learning Website.
Activities
Woogaboo's learning environments are anchored in fun, healthy activities such as cooking, farming/gardening, film making, ultimate frisbee and skiing/snowboarding.
Woogaboo is capable of enriching most any activity.
Bridge to Academics
Woogaboo uses its activities as a fun arena for skill and cognitive development. By building a bridge to classroom curricula, Woogaboo brings learning to life, while encouraging healthy lifestyles and interactions.
The Woogaboo Universe
Woogaboo's unique learning environment is organized and enriched by three elements:
1. Ecological-Education: a student centered approach to learning, with a high mentor-student ratio
2. Mentor Network: an international professional group
3. Universe of Learning Website: a student-centered interactive website
Collaboration
Woogaboo takes a collaborative approach to implemeting its educational system.
By partnering with schools, community organizations, businesses, state and federal agencies, Woogaboo maximizes community resources. Woogaboo also customizes its programs, so that they are culturally and socially relevant, focusing on the needs and interests of each community's young people.
The Community
Woogaboo is currently implementing programs in northern New Mexcio, as it continues to welcome more clubs, programs and mentors from around the US and abroad to its learning community.
